Free directories submission is an effective  online-marketing / link popularity strategy as it provides a one way link back to your site. Sites which receive inks from other sites but does not reciprocate in kind is rated by the search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN as having more popularity.

A site with many one-way links is given a higher page rank. This translates to greater visibility because search engine spiders bring to the fore, the higher ranked site with the same key words as those entered. Greater visibility means more visits and when those (visits) are properly maximized by features such as opt-in mail lists for newsletters and so on, this leads to higher revenue.

Free directories are usually inundated with many requests for site placement. As the internet version of the moms and pops establishment it means that the webmasters of free directories submission sites are, like many small business owners, long on tasks but short on staff.
