The Business Plan | 5 Great Reasons to Have One

a business plan lays opened. It shows a vivid representation in graphs of the expected fluxes and wanes in the business' environment

The business plan is the road map to success! And this is not an exaggeration.

It charts the course that takes you from where you are to where you want to be.

It is true that we can start an online business for under a thousand dollars. It is highly unlikely that we would need any financing from a major financial service. Another truth is that we can get an online business started anywhere within a few hours to a few weeks.

But does that eliminate the need for a robust business plan?

No it does not. We may have all the gas we need to get from here to there but we are wasting it if we are driving aimlessly. Not having a business plan or some idea where you are going is a waste of time and money.

5 Reasons to Make and Use a Business Plan

Here are 5 good reasons savvy entrepreneurs use and make a business plan. A business plan:

1. Gives you a clearer picture of what you want to achieve.

2. Helps you to run your business better.

3.Makes you aware of problems that may arise and helps you to avoid or at least prepare for them.

4. Helps you to identify needs to be met and responsibilities to be delegated.

5. Ascertain capital needed to get started and to keep the business running until you begin to earn an income.

Along with the above, a business plan is the road map to success because it gives particular attention to the three areas which make-up the foundation of every business. These are:

The Business Idea consists of the executive summary and business description. Here you look at the product, its industry and how you intend to take the product and make it a success .

The Market Place-in this area you discuss marketing strategies and explore the competition; and make a realistic competitive analysis of what you are up against. In the world of online business ´competitive analysis´would be , for example, look at the competition for certain keywords. If those top 10 sites boast a 5+ Google Page Rank you would probably want to look at other keywords where the sites have a lower page ranks.

The Market Place also look at your design, development, operations and management plans. In other words you identify your customers and the competition; and you design a strategy on how you intend to best the competition. This is where you consider 'niche marketing' within a certain industry.

The Financial Statement - here you look at cash flow, income and other accounting information. This area helps you decide how much to spend on marketing, research, development and so on.

All the aforementioned reasons are just some why the business plan is the road map to success.
